Aelfwine Navigator'

This picture is an illustration to J.R.R Tolkien's mitology ant the tale of Aelfwine The Sailor. He was an Ango-Saxon Hero who sailed across the Ocean to the Farest West to Undying Lands and met elves. There he made a copy of some of an old tales from First, Second and the Third Age, and later after when he camed back, he took manuscript back to Medival England. In His vision Tolkien himselph, is just a translator of found old scripts from old english language and that is the source of such J.R.R.T books as 'Hobbit', 'Lord of The Rings', and of course 'Silmarillion'.

My A3-format watercolour (with help of black gelpen) is some form of art-noveau stained glass. We can see the Aelfwine himself standing on the bow of his ship, and raising his hand to farewell his elven friends from Tol Eressea. In his second hand are scrolls of the old legends. He is saling home, at East... Returning trom his great voyage... During the journey his friends wil be only Silver Fishes, White Seaguls and the Stars of Elbereth upon his head.

This Artwork was a proposition to Tolkien Calendar 2007, but for some reasons (it's a long story), it want printed in this form. Misfortune. Maybe next time I shall have more lucky?
